Sam Dunlap (b. 1950's) of Panacea recalls a single gravestone near the Dunlap place east of Sopchoppy. The stone was south of Sopchoppy Hwy. and west of Buckhorn Creek. Although his recollection of the location was not precise, Mr. Dunlap has recently gone again to look, and found that apparently the site has been destroyed in the enlargement of a borrow pit in the north half of Sec. 8, 5S, 2W. Whether the stone remained to the time of that occurrence is not known. This grave evidently would have lain west of the Yoder gravestone, perhaps within ½ mile.
Mary S. Butera of Sopchoppy also recalls a marked grave that may be this one. It was someplace near her girlhood home that lay south of the highway and evidently a little south of homes standing today at 1501 and 1521 Sopchoppy Hwy. She does not have a reference for the spot or recollection of a name.
Date of site report narrative - March 2002
