CRAWFORDVILLE - Betty Joyce Cabler, 77, who retired from the Florida Department of Revenue and was a floral designer, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004. The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. EDT today at Roselawn Cemetery in Tallahassee. Beggs Funeral Home Apalachee Parkway Chapel in Tallahassee (850-942-2929) is handling arrangements. Born in Erie, Pa., she was a former resident of Tampa but had lived most of her life in Leon County. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. She is survived by two daughters, Betty Watford (and husband Luther) and Charlotte Eoff, both of Tallahassee, and three grandchildren, Mitchelle Weldon Baxter of Wakulla, Tammy Rochelle Glover of Tampa and Terrie Glover of Tallahassee. Mrs. Cabler was born July 26, 1928 in Wakulla County, the daughter of the late Rufus Tucker Sr. and the late Minnie Virginia Nazworth Tucker. She has lived in Columbus for the past five years and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Crawfordville. Survivors include four daughters, Virginia (and Butch) Beach of Columbus, Ga., Brenda (and Greg) Mathers of Crawfordville, Donna (and Ron) Ward of Dothan, Ala. and Chanelsa Cabler of Atlanta; a sister, Rossie Wildern of Crawfordville; two brothers, Rufus Tucker Jr. of Dothan, Ala. and Dexter Tucker of Atlanta; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and devoted friend, Elizabeth Peeler. BLOUNTSTOWN - William Randal "Billy Gray" Calder, 72, who retired from the U. S. Air Force, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Agnes Calder. The service will be at 10 a.m. CST today at Christian Home Freewill Baptist Church in Blountstown, with burial at Nettle Ridge Cemetery. Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown (850-674-2266) is handling arrangements. The beloved husband and father died at his home in the care of his family and hospice. Bill was born in Blackshear, Ga., on March 7, 1930, and moved to Hosford in 1937. In 1946, he married Mary Agnes Halley of Blountstown in Cairo, Ga. He retired as a master sergeant from the Air Force after serving 24 years. He did tours in Korea and Vietnam. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Association and the Air Force Sergeants Association. He was a Baptist. His parents were the late Alberta Youmans Sikes and the late Kenneth Calder. His stepfather was the late George "Jake" Sikes, and his stepmother was the late Mollie Calder. Other survivors include two daughters, Peggy Somers (and husband Craig) of Marshallton, Iowa, and Cinda Nichols (and husband Charles) of Tallahassee; a son, Ty Calder of Birmingham, Ala.; a brother, Douglas Sikes of Crawfordville; a daughter-in-law, Christy Calder of Morris, Ala.; and a devoted friend and neighbor, Betty White of Blountstown. He was also a loving Papa and "Granddaddy" to his eight grandchildren, DiDi, Crystal, April, Shannon, Kelly, Christopher, Kristin and Katie, and to his four great-grandchildren, Megan, Hunter, Holly and Sloan. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth "Tallmadge" Calder and Don Calder, and three sisters, Peggy Calder, Maxine Stafford and Shirley Johns. DARIEN - Robert "Bob" Thomas Cameron, 47, a retired Navy chief, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002. The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. EST Tuesday at Aaran Cemetery in Crawfordville. She was a proud member of the Capital Seminole Sam Motor Home Club and was known there as "Renegade Grama" where she traveled extensively with the group throughout the country. She enjoyed tailgating at Florida State football games. She also enjoyed crafts, cooking and gardening. She was also an active member of Sopchoppy Southern Baptist Church. She is survived by three sisters, Mary C. Kyle, Joyce C. Pigott and Judy C. Helms; 11 nieces and nephews; 20 great-nieces-and-nephews; a great-great-nephew; a great-great-niece; and a host of friends from Wakulla County and Eastern Air Lines. He loved to fish and spend time with his cronies. He touched a lot of people in Tallahassee and never knew a stranger. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. After high school he attended California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, graduating with a Bachelor's of Science. He later attended Washington State University, where he was awarded a masters in environmental management. He held environmental health positions with the states of Oregon and Idaho, where he had responsibilities for control and licensing of radiological devices and radioactive materials. In 1975 he was named regional director of air and water pollution for North Idaho. In 1981 he accepted a position at the Hanford nuclear facility in Richland, Wash. In 1988 he transferred to the Savannah River nuclear facility, operated by Westinghouse in Aiken, S.C., to be the manager of nuclear-waste material. He retired in 1991 and moved to Crawfordville. Mike had a lifelong interest in amateur radio. He was first licensed at age 15 with the call sign K60HD. He subsequently became K7RLS and, more recently, K4MZ. He was a member of the American Radio Relay League. He qualified for a number of operating awards, including the DX Century Club Honor Roll, signifying confirmed contacts with virtually all the countries of the world. During the '60s and early '70s, Mike was an avid photographer, processing and developing many beautiful memories for his family. He was a breeder of Siamese cats and chinchillas and well known for his in-depth research and work. He was a student of Civil War history and, at one time, collected Civil War postage artifacts. He also collected first editions and various publications of well-known authors, such as Marjorie Rawlings and Willa Cather. Other survivors include two sons, Joel of Austin, Texas, and Nicholas of Crawfordville; a daughter, Kathryn of Boise, Idaho; his mother, Betty Pinar of Crawfordville; two sisters, Mary Beth Murrill of Altadena, Calif., and Victoria Connolly of Auburn, Calif.; and a stepbrother, David Pinar of Las Vegas. CRAWFORDVILLE - The Rev. Kenneth Lee Claycomb, 86, an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Norma Watkins Claycomb. Kenneth was born Sept. 8, 1918, in Harrison County, Mo., the second of eight children of Harry and Edna Claycomb. At the age of 20 he became a minister with the Assemblies of God. He was ordained to the full gospel ministry in 1942. He was pastor at churches in Missouri, Kansas, South Carolina and Florida. He evangelized nationwide and preached in several foreign countries, including Guatemala, Equador, Paraguay, Russia and in the Panama Canal Zone. He also was the speaker for eight camp meetings. A book, "Studies Concerning the Holy Spirit," was written by the Rev. Claycomb. While pastor of First Assembly of God in Tallahassee approximately eight young people entered full-time ministry under his leadership. Mr. Robert Charles Clemons, age 63 of Crawfordville, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2016. He was born to the late Mert and Erlene Marshall Clemons and was a resident of Tallahassee until moving to Crawfordville eleven years ago. Robert retired from the City of Tallahassee, where he made many lifelong friends. He loved the Lord, his family and the Florida State Seminoles. He also loved history and science fiction books and movies, especially Doctor Who. Robert had a sense of humor and told terrible jokes that kept his friends and family entertained. He loved to talk and will be remembered for "just one more thing..." BONIFAY: Richard David 'RD' Conibear, 52, passed away quietly at his home in Bonifay, Florida, on December 23, 2008, with his wife, JoLea at his side, after a two year battle with cancer. RD was born in Lakeland, Fla, where he lived before moving to northern Florida when he went to work as a Project Administrator for Volkert for 15 years during which time h was in charge of overseeing and inspecting major roadways. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and working on vintage cars and motorcycles. He and his father restored several vintage cars and trucks. RD had a kind heart, and wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed playing practical jokes on the ones he loved. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard H. (Chief) Conibear and Jo W. Conibear. He is survived by his wife, JoLea Fewell Conibear, a step-daughter, Niki Lawhon (Josh); and two grandchildren, Brayden and Parker of Sopchoppy, Fla.; two sisters, JoLinda Sessions (Terry) and Ann Roberts (Paul) of Lakeland, Fla.; mother and father-in-law, Beverly and Raleigh Fewell and brother-in-law, Jimmy Fewell (Laura) of Woodville, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Melinda Crum (Kendall) of Crawfordville, Fla. He will be missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Wiley Eugene Connell, 42, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, from a heart attack at his home in Knoxville, Tenn. The service was Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, in Vidalia, Ga. He was laid to rest in the Connell cemetery in Mount Vernon, Ga. Born in Marianna, he lived in Tallahassee until 1991, when he moved to Columbia, S.C., and then to Knoxville earlier this year. He worked for Intech Systems of South Carolina, a family-held telecommunications company. He graduated from Leon High School in 1978. He is survived by his immediate family: mother, Nellie Connell of Knoxville; a brother, Donald R. Tallahassee - Rev. Henry Clay Cooksey, Sr., 88, of Tallahassee, died Thursday 5/22/03 at home surrounded by family members. He was descended from three pioneer families, Cookseys, Langs and Granthams who settled in Jefferson County between Waukeenah and Monticello in the early 1830's. In his early years, he was a dairyman as was his father William Cooksey, however, he answered the call and became a full time minister in the service of his Lord Jesus Christ at the age of 39. He was of the Assembly of God faith and served as minister to the Otter Creek, Monticello, Pine Grove, Ivan, and Woodside Heights churches. Following retirement he attended Heritage Assembly of God church. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Flora Erin Ashburn Cooksey and 13 children, 31 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two of his children, Sarah Rebecca Cooksey and Paul Stephen Cooksey. Surviving children are: Henry Clay Cooksey, Jr. of Dothan, AL, Mable Stafford of Wakulla County, Mary Mathers of Tallahassee, Rosa Letchworth of Monticello, Esther Buzzard of Winston Salem, NC, Elizabeth Costello of Tallahassee, Sharon Carter of Wakulla County, Rev. Martha Lois Ricehouse of Gladstone, MO, Samuel Cooksey of Tallahassee, Rev. Daniel Cooksey, Lemuel Cooksey, Phillip Cooksey of Wakulla County, and Priscilla Vause of Tallahassee. Although, he was well known for his gentle nature, he was also known for his great physical strength which earned him the nickname "Bull" while playing football for Leon High School. He served his country during WWII in the Florida National Guard. His greatest legacy was the love he had for his family. No matter what any of us did to offend him, he never stopped loving, caring and praying for us. We have never known anyone who personified the love of Jesus Christ as well as he. Another important legacy was the work ethic instilled in each of his children, all of whom are well known for their devotion to duty. Deloris "Dee" Sanders Cordell, 83, died Sunday, May 23, 2004. She loved golf, bridge and antiquing. She also loved spending time at her homes in Waynesville, N.C., and Alligator Point. She was lovingly cared for by her friend, Doris Barrington. CRAWFORDVILLE: Thomas George Core, 63, of Wakulla Station, died Sunday, Sept. 23, at Tallahassee Memorial Regional Memorial Center after a long illness. He was a lifelong resident of Wakulla County and a member of the Wakulla United Methodist Church. He was a retired employee of the Wakulla County Road Department. Survivors include his wife, Maude Nails Core, of Wakulla; three sons, Cecil G. Core of Tallahassee, Jerry A. Core of DeFuniak Springs and Thomas G. Core Jr., of Crawfordville; a daughter, Patricia C. Crosby of Woodville; and three sisters, Blye Thomas of Crawfordville, Eunice Porter of Ivan Community and Eula Goodman of Tallahassee, and 10 grandchildren. SOPCHOPPY: Thomas George Core Jr., 58, passed away Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, from injuries received in a motorcycle accident. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Shirley Crum Core. He had lived in this area his entire life and was a member of Lake Ellen Baptist Church. He loved to fish and cast net, loved baking, his rose garden and fruit trees and wrote poetry. He very much loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a fire and security officer at General Dynamics in St. Marks, Fla. He served in the U. S. Army. CRAWFORDVILLE - Gary R. "Colonel" Cregar, 57, died Tuesday, June 16, 2005. A wake for family and friends is being planned. Harvey-Young Funeral Home (850-926-3333) is handling arrangements. Gary was born in 1948 in New Castle, Ind., and graduated from Short High School in Liberty, Ind. Gary served in the U.S. Army, Ninth Infantry Division in Vietnam in 1969. He received the Army Commendation Medal V Device and the Bronze Star V Device for heroism. Other awards include the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantry Badge, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. His citation reads: "When his unit came under intense hostile fire, Specialist Cregar boldly manuevered across 60 meters of open terrain where he took up an exposed position from which to return fire. He remained in this position, braving a hail of enemy rounds, until the enemy had been routed." He moved to Crawfordville in 1980. He met his wife, Betty, while she was on vacation, and they married in 1986. Gary was a man of few words. He lived a life of simple leisure on his disability pension, often spending time with friends throughout the years. He left an impression on their lives, and their couches. He is survived by his mother, Charlotte Davis of West Florida; a brother, Randy Cregar of Chicago; and a sister, Jane Cregar of West Florida. Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, and his father, Norman. Troubled by his war experience, he is now at peace and will be missed by his friends. Winifred "Winnie" Register Culbreath, 91, an elementary-school teacher and homemaker, died Wednesday, March 29, 2006.
