Chella Mullen "Charlie" Macon, 89, of Glenville, N.C., died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2005, at Highland-Cashiers Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Bert and Mary Williams Mullen. She is survived by a son, Dewey E. Taylor (and wife Suellen) of Chatsworth, Ga.; her sisters, Katherine Monroe of Glenville and Dorothy Kirkham of Salt Lake City, Utah; a brother, Burt Mullen (and wife Pualine) of Evansville; a granddaughter, Janet Rae Jones (and husband Michael) of Panama City Beach; and a great-granddaughter, Rachael Nichole Jones. James "Jimmy" Maiwald, 72, of Sopchoppy died June 3, 2016, after an extended illness. He was a native of Sopchoppy, Florida and lived his entire life in the area. He worked many years as an Electrician with Maiwald Electric, working with his father. Jimmy was a man with a giving, loving heart. He is survived by his daughter Carolyn Kent (Chuck) and son Billy Maiwald (Teresa), 5 grandchildren Jordan, Kristin, Cierra, Parker & Haley, 3 sisters and a host of nieces & nephews. He was educated at Dartmouth College and Northwestern University in sociology. He lived and worked primarily in Baltimore in the field of social services and also as a teacher. He possessed a fine intellect and was a lifelong scholar of philosophy, sociology and poetry. He wrote beautifully. Two of his poems are included in the upcoming edition of the "Apalachee Review." He loved books and music, especially opera; sang well; and played the organ and the banjo. He also liked to fish. He was a deeply ethical, kind and gentle person- a true gentleman- who loved all that is decent and good in the world and hated cruelty of any kind. He was married for more than 50 years and is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy Leary Martin of Sopchoppy; his three children, Nelson Leary Martin of Sopchoppy and Rebecca Martin and William A. Martin IV, both of Tallahassee; a grandson, Wilson Bilkovich of Tallahassee; and two brothers, Dexter Martin of Brookings, S.D., and John Martin of Alexandria, Va. Attending the Senior Center was also a favorite weekly event in her later years. She was devoted to her family who will miss her guidance, influence, love and presence very much, but rejoice that she is now filled with peace and joy in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jordan Brooks "J.B." McCollum, 75, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, at his home. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sue Herndon McCollum. At his request his body is being donated for scientific research. A lifelong resident of Leon County, he was the son of the late John Edward and Vera Jane McCollum. He graduated from Leon High School shortly after World War II and went to work for the Tallahassee Democrat in the press room and later in the advertising department. In the 1960s he founded the Town and Country Nursery and Garden Shop, later selling to a partner. He then went to work for the Leon County Clerk's office and eventually the Leon County Property Appraiser's office, where he worked from 1961 to 1965. He was elected to the Leon County Commission in 1966 and served until 1978. While on the commission, he was a guiding force behind the development of Tom Brown Park, the Civic Center and the new county library. He was a staunch advocate of environmental protection issues and helped to make the major county regulations about stormwater runoff and tree and landscape protections, while fiercely supporting economic development too. He was also a longtime board member of the Tallahassee Museum of History & Natural Science. He retired in 1990 to enjoy his family and hobbies. Joseph "Joey" Thomas McGuire, 47, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005. The service will be at 7:30 p.m. EST Tuesday at Abbey-Riposta Funeral Home (850-562- 1518). Joey was born January 20, 1958, in Tallahassee. He was the second of five children. He was a member of the Tallahassee Tumbling Tots during his childhood and developed a talent for music and drama. During his teen years, his family moved to Easley, S.C., where he graduated from Easley High School in 1975. In August, 1975, he joined the U.S. Army and was a 1976 graduate of Fort Jackson Military School of Administrations, Columbia, S.C. He served 13 months stateside in Assistive Instructional training and for 17 months in Germany as the Colonel's driver and attache. After an honorable discharge, Joey returned to Easley and to his wife of eight years, Holly Stewart. He was employed in the printing industry as a graphic artist and prepress technician. He attended Tri-County Technical College in Easley and Tallahassee Community College in Tallahassee. From 1984 to 1989, Joey worked for Homes & Land in Tallahassee as an ad layout operator. From 1989 to 1990, he was an information specialist with Florida State University's Academic Computing Network Services. During 1990 and 1991, he was an adjunct professor at FSU's College of Communication where he taught desktop publishing, graphic design and software training. From April 1990 to March 1995, Joey was a computer and publications consultant/conference manager for the Center for Public Management at FSU. He developed, organized and managed the Florida Government Technology Conference during this time, a statewide conference with several thousand people in attendance. From 1995 to 2002, Joey held positions as a senior graphic artist/designer and service bureau manager for printing companies in New Orleans, Tallahassee, Cape Coral and West Palm Beach. From 1995 to present, he was a consultant, conference manager and graphic designer for Meeting Makers Inc. in Tallahassee. During his dual career as a graphic designer and meeting planner, and in addition for FGTC, a sampling of the events he organized are: the Florida House of Representatives Retreat, Florida Comparison of Environmental Risks Conference, Southeast Regional Environmental Indicators Conference, and the Seminar Series for the Florida Association of Court Clerks/Comptrollers and MacAdamia Southeast 1990 and 1991 Conferences. Joey was a valued member of the Society of Government Meeting Professionals, Florida Capital Chapter, for 10 years, serving in various positions on the board and committees. He was the chapter's newsletter editor and designer and won "Best Newsletter" in national competition in 1991, 1993 and 1994. He was awarded the prestigious "William L. Harnage Award for Education" in 1992, and the "President's Award of Honor for Dedicated Service and Outstanding Leadership" in 1993. He has presented numerous seminars on desktop publishing, QuarkXPress, Microsoft, Adobe Illustrator, newsletter design and publishing. He was proficient with both Macintosh and PC platforms. Joey was a true and loyal friend. He always had a generous spirit, a kind and loving heart, a warm smile and an encouraging voice. He was a gracious professional, a talented musician and an excellent dancer. He embraced life to the fullest, was unafraid to take risks and never met a stranger. He had a strong belief in God and lived his life accordingly, always hopeful and forever forgiving. He was and still is an inspiration to all who know him. He was a respected boatwright and consultant extraordinaire for many years. He was a beloved mentor to many throughout his life. His mottoes were "what goes around, comes around" and "pass it on." He helped many and encouraged them to "pass it on" by helping others. She began teaching in 1941 in Hernando County. She moved to Wakulla County in 1942 and taught at Crawfordville High School and Wakulla High School until her retirement in 1976 as a supervisor with the Wakulla County Schools. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society. She was a member of Crawfordville United Methodist Church, where she was the adult Sunday school teacher. She was also the treasurer and pianist at Zion Hill Methodist Church. As a teacher, she touched the lives of thousands of students in Wakulla County. Many of those students credit their success to the teaching of Ms. Dot Miller. Even into her 80s, she volunteered as a tutor to students in math. She will always be remembered as a master teacher in both math and science. In 1969, she developed the very first master in-service plan for Wakulla teachers. She is survived by three sons, Dr. Daniel Miller (and wife Ginger) of Macon, Ga., and David Miller (and wife Dolores) and J. Mark Miller both of Crawfordville; a brother, William E. She had been a member of the Greater Mount Zion Primitive Baptist Church since 1948, where she served on the deaconess/mother's board, usher board No. 2 and choir No. 2, was founder of the Griffin-Burnett Educational Scholarship Committee and was a former president of the church prayer band. She was a member of the Old West Florida Primitive Baptist Association and the State Convention Primitive Baptist deaconess and mother's board. She was a former president of the Christian Women's Club and participated in the senior exercise program at Smith-Williams Center. Survivors include three sons, George Mills (and wife Opal) of Denver, Lev T. Mills (and wife Joyce) of Atlanta and Tommy Mills (and wife Monica) of Tallahassee; a daughter, Jacqueline G. He was born March 31, 1916, to Arthur P. and U'Laly Raker Moore of Crawfordville. On June 12, 1935, he married Lauvenia Hunter of Iron City, Ga. They were married for 57 years, until her death in 1992. For more than 70 years, he farmed the lands of Wakulla County with his lifelong friend, the late S.B. Forbes. He was also a carpenter and worked at Wakulla Springs on the filming of the first Tarzan movie. He served as a trustee of the Wakulla County school system during the 1950s and was later appointed to a four-year term on the Wakulla County School Board. He served as an ASC committeeman for Wakulla County for 20 years and was past president and director of the Wakulla County Farm Bureau. At the time of his death, he was the oldest male member of the Crawfordville First Baptist Church, where he served faithfully until his health no longer allowed him to participate. He was a member of the Adult Men's Sunday School Class and served for many years as a trustee and deacon of the church. He was currently serving as a deacon emeritus. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Jack Henderson of Crawfordville; two grandchildren, Jakey Casto (and husband Greg) of Frederick, Md., and Mark Henderson of Alpharetta, Ga.; two great-grandchildren, Mitch and Matt Casto of Frederick; two nieces, Donna Card (and husband Norm) of Crawfordville and Margaret Worthington of Brinson, Ga.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews and a host of friends and extended family who will miss him greatly. VERO BEACH - Keith Moore, 65, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, in Tallahassee. The service will be at 1 p.m. CDT Tuesday at Collier Funeral Home in Benton, Ky. (270-527-3141). After graduating from North Marshall High School in 1957, he entered the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged and retired from the Navy in 1959. He married Glenda Rowland of Eddyville, Ky., in 1960. He was employed by Air Products and Chemicals for 17 years. He was well-known throughout western Kentucky for his love of gospel music. He was a part-time gospel music promoter and gospel music disc jockey for WCBL Radio Station in Benton. After moving to Florida in 1977, Keith worked in automobile sales until retiring. He is survived by his wife, Glenda; a daughter, Rosemary Erwin of Crawfordville; a son, Rondall Moore of Vero Beach; four grandchildren, Audrey Erwin and Bradley Erwin, both of Crawfordville, and Courtney Greenich and Zachary Moore, both of Vero Beach; a sister, Judy Cannon of Aurora, Ky.; and a brother, Kenneth Moore of Calvert City, Ky. Gerald "Jerry" K. Morelock, 86, died Tuesday, June 19, 2007, following a short battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Libby Morelock. He was a member of the Air Force Association and the Retired Officers Association. She completed her college education at Florida State University, earning a bachelor's degree in health education in 1983. Following graduation, she had a 13 year career with the state's Department of Public Health. Active in her community, she was involved with the Wakulla High Athletic Boosters, Sopchoppy Homemakers Club, Wakulla Book Club, and Keep Wakulla County Beautiful. She was an active member of the Wakulla County Rotary. Her family was one of the original members of St. Elizabeth Seton Church and she was a member for over 30 years. Active in a variety of church programs, she enjoyed her participation in the church choir. Survivors include her son, Paul Morton (and his wife Rhonda); her grandson, Garrett of Montgomery; her sister, Mary O'Connell of Lexington, Ky.; and 10 nieces and nephews.
