QUINCY - Hubert Sadler, 74, who retired as a truck driver for Gulf Coast Hatchery and a salvage yard owner, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2006. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Evelyn Sadler. The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. EST Monday at Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. EST today at Independent Funeral Home in Quincy (850-875-1529). A native of Decatur County, Ga., he had lived in Quincy for 45 years. SOPCHOPPY - William Thomas Sanders Jr., 83, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, in Tallahassee after a brief illness. Mr. Sanders was a World War II Army veteran, having served in Alaska and the European Theater. He was retired from the state of Florida and Pan Am Airlines. He was a master Mason of the Ashmore Lodge #102 and a member of the First Baptist Church of Sopchoppy. He loved the Braves and his faithful companions, his dogs Gator and Woodie. Survivors include two sisters, Anita S. Townsend of Crawfordville and Juanita S. Roddenberry of Sopchoppy; a brother, John D. Saunders of Curtis Mill; several nieces and nephews as well as grandnieces and grandnephews who will dearly miss their Uncle "T". RIVER SINK - John W. Sarvis, 88, who was a retired supervisor for the Southwood Plantation Farm Division, died Sunday, June 27, 2004, in Medart. He was a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Curtis Mills. As a young man, he worked in the civil service during World War II and was in charge of water chlorination at Camp Gordon Johnson. He was later employed by St. Joe Paper Co., Southwood Plantation Farm Division and by the late Ed Ball to tend to the personal maintenance of the mansion and Wakulla Springs. He is survived by a son, Stephen Sarvis (and wife Rose) of Tallahassee; a daughter, Gwen Wall (and husband Howard) of River Sink; two daughters-in-law, Judy Sarvis and Linda Sarvis; nine grandchildren, Renee, Rhonda, Tim, Rusty, Tory, Steve, Michael, Jamey and Amanda; and 18 great-grandchildren. She had worked many years as a registered nurse in many capacities, most recently with Case Management at TMH, and was formerly employed in the home healthcare industry. Antje attended Tallahassee Heights United Methodist Church. She will be missed by her many friends. She is survived by three daughters, Frederika Schlickelman of Crawfordville, Janet Saldana of Tallahassee, and Kay Smith and husband John of Linn, Mo.; eight grandchildren; her brother Jens Wilrodt of Germany; and her former husband and good friend Gary Schlickelman (and his wife Dawna). CRAWFORDVILLE - John "Jack" Robert Schliep Jr., 50, a financial fraud detective for the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office, died Sunday, July 29, 2007, in Tallahassee. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Schliep. The memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Harvey-Young Funeral Home (850-926-3333) in Crawfordville. He was a resident of Crawfordville for three years and a former resident of Citrus County. He was Lutheran. He was a mason, a Shriner, a member of the Moose Lodge and a honorary member of the Kentucky Colonels. He was a board member of the Big Bend Task Force. He started his career at the Trenton State Prison in Trenton, N.J. He moved to Florida and joined the Citrus County Sheriff's Department, where he served for 18 years. While there, he established the Financial Fraud Division. He worked at the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office from July 2002 to Dec. 17, 2004. Over his career, he received many awards and was highly respected and revered as a mentor and roll model for his fellow officers. He worked hard in achieving his higher education. Other survivors include his mother, Rosina Schliep of Riverside, N.J.; a daughter, Heather Mazeao (and husband Greg) of California; two stepdaughters, Hayley Provenzano (and husband Scott) and Erin Suber, both of Tallahassee; a sister, Robin Steiner (and husband Charles) of Morristown, N.J.; a grandchild, Sara Grace Mazeao of California; two nieces, Emmalyn and Sara Steiner of Morristown; and a nephew, Brenton Steiner of Morristown. He was a marketing representative for the Sperry/Unysis Corp. and was a longtime member of the Tallahassee Quarterback Club. He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic and St. Elizabeth Anne Seton Catholic churches. He had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Maxine Perkins Schrader, whom he married Valentine's Day 1953; three sons, James J. Schrader of Casselberry, Robert T. Schrader of Glenwood Springs, Colo., and John A. Schrader of Tallahassee; two daughters, Linda B. Schrader-Nahoom of Lloyd and Lisa L. Muller of Altamonte Springs; four grandsons, Joseph, Jared, Tommy and Adam; three granddaughters, Blair, Sarah and Sydney; and a niece, Becky Schrader.

She recently joined Bradfordville First Baptist after many years as a member of Tallahassee First Baptist Church, where she was a longtime Sunday school teacher and leader of Bible studies. Charles Terrell "Terry" Shaw, 66, of Talala, Okla., died Saturday, June 11, 2005, at his home. While in high school, he met his future wife, Margaret Alice Humphress. After high school, Terry moved to Norman, Okla., where he attended Oklahoma University. He graduated with a bachelor's in engineering. Terry then served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an officer during the Vietnam War. He and Margaret lived in California and Texas before moving to Oklahoma in 1977. Terry retired as an estimator, designing oil field equipment in the oil service industry. Survivors include two sons, David Shaw and Phillip Shaw of Talala, Okla., and two sisters, Sharon Weeks (and husband Ken) of Macon, Ga., and Martha Carol Watts (and husband Joe) of Talladega, Ala. He then went to work for the Department of Natural Resources as a seafood industry consultant, where he retired. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was an avid fisherman, a noted cook and a yarn teller. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Monticello and the Mens Adult III Sunday school class. He is also survived by a son, Tom Shuman of Tallahassee; two daughters, Sally Jordan (and husband Lynn) of Monticello and Ruth Lyle (and husband Steve) of Tallahassee; a stepson, Carl Davis (and wife Rhonda) of Tallahassee; two stepdaughters, Candie Garner (and husband Charles) and Lisa Revell (and husband Rod), both of Tallahassee; a brother, Cap Shuman (and wife Felice) of Monticello; a sister, Mary Moody of Dothan, Ala.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Edward C. Smith, 49, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005. To the end Ed marched through life on his own terms. In deference to Ed's wishes he will be cremated and there will be no services. Ed honed his love of plants and flowers through Lively Technical Center's horticulture program in the early 1990s and for the remainder of his days he tended to the plants and yards of those who became his dearest friends. Ed's goal in life was to be the person his cats thought he was. He passed away at home in his kingdom of Mystic Springs after a brief but tenacious battle with lung cancer. Ed will be sorely missed by his life partner, Jan Peterson; their kitty family, especially Frodo and Sable; his father, Edward T. Smith; a sister, Wendy Dee (and husband Dave); and a niece, Amber Shreves. All are of Spring Creek. He also is survived by a great friend and the older brother Ed always needed, Tom Richards of Tallahassee. He died suddenly while volunteering at the American Red Cross Center. He was a charter member of Springtime Tallahassee, the Governors Club and Capital City Country Club and was a member of The Colonels, Town Club, Tiger Bay, the Elks and Committee of 99. Robert F. Smith, 80, of Manistique, Mich., died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at his home. He is survived by wife, Carolyn. He was born on June 19, 1923, in Flint, Mich., and the son of Robert and Marie (Breecher) Smith and attended schools there. Bob served in the Coast Guard during World War II. He was superintendent on numerous building construction projects throughout the United States. He was a member of the V.F.W., Moose Lodge, American Legion, and enjoyed softball, baseball and bowing. She retired from the U.S. Department of State and the Florida Department of Education. She earned a Master of Science degree in education administration/leadership from Florida State University in 1995. She was a generous and active member of the community of Crawfordville. She volunteered with the American Red Cross, Toastmasters International and the Red Hat Society, and was an enthusiastic cast member in many FSU graduate film productions. God's marching band now has one heavenly majorette! She is survived by her husband, Daniel Smith; a sister, Dorothy Snyder of Ohio; a brother, James Dellinger of Florida; and three daughters, Sjonne "Mickey" Mabbott, Renee Smith and Lucy Smith, all of Florida. Jessica was a very special person who will be dearly missed by all, including her co-workers at Woodwright Industries in Cartersville, Ga. She was also a participant of the Special Olympics of Florida and a Girl Scout throughout her years at Everhart. She loves animals, particularly dolphins and her old best friend Brutus, little Buddy Scout and "Nick" the goldfish. Jessica loved the Atlanta Braves and FSU football. Jessica was extremely proud of her family and friends and enjoyed living in the Atlanta area. She will be missed by all. She truly is an "Angel of God." Survivors include her parents, Kenneth W. ST. PETE BEACH - Homer E. Still Jr., 85, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, at Largo Medical Center. Services are being planned. Mr. Still was born in Plano, Ky., and moved to Jacksonville when he was 2 years old. He was a 1942 graduate of the University of Florida where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. During World War II he served in the Army Quartermaster Corps. as an employment officer at the Schenectady Depot. He later served in the Army Air Corps, as a B-24 bomber pilot in the 8th Air Force, 44th bomb group and the 506th bomb squad flying out of England. He was shot down over Germany and was a prisoner of war in Stalag Luft I, Barth, then known as Pomerania. After the war, he returned to the University of Florida where he taught Accounting. He also worked for a Certified Public accountant firm in Jacksonville and did graduate work at University of California-Los Angeles and Berkeley. He returned to Florida in 1952, where he performed municipal audits and was an auditor with the State Auditor. He became a Florida CPA in 1953. He was active in the Unitarian Church for many years and served as president of the Jacksonville Church and the Tallahassee Church. He was also president of the Florida Council of Liberal Churches. He was active in the LeMoyne Art Foundation in Tallahassee serving as president, treasurer and board member. He served as a staff member for the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce. He was a budget examiner with the Florida budget director, and he served on the Board of Regents staff. He was the associate director of the University of Michigan nationwide research project on university finance. He was Florida's first state planning director, the only Democrat appointed by then Gov. Claude Kirk to head an agency. He moved from Tallahassee to St. Pete Beach in 1973, and became the proprietor of a one-man business, where he rented sailboats, pedal boats, canoes, kayaks, one-man motor boats, and lounges. He also sold sun -tan lotion and gave sailing lessons. He said his most significant lifetime occupational accomplishment was teaching thousands of people to sail with a one-hour lesson. He served on the board of directors of the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative as vice president and then president. He was an active member and past commander of the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of American Ex-Prisoners of War; a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4256, the American Civil Liberties Union and the Center for Inquiry. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Ann; three sons, James E. Still of Tallahassee, Wayne McDaniel Becker of Chiefland and David Todd of Crawfordville; a daughter, Jamie Cox of Tallahassee; a sister, Evelyn Abercrombie of Jacksonville; five grandchildren, and a great-grandson. Dixie T. Stoutamire, 88, a heavy-equipment operator, died Saturday, April 17, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ertis Long Stoutamire. The service will be at 2 p.m. EDT Tuesday at Fort Braden Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will follow at the Stoutamire Family Cemetery at 24709 Log Landing Road on Highway 375. He was born on May 12, 1915, to Daisy Gatlin Stoutamire and D.W. "Stout" Stoutamire in the community of Ward in Leon County. He attended Fort Braden School and graduated from Leon High School. He was employed by Smith Construction Co. during World War II and helped build air strips and roads for the military in the Florida Panhandle. In later years, he became self-employed as a heavy-equipment operator, clearing land in Leon and surrounding counties. He spent several years in South Florida and Fort Pierce, clearing land for cattle ranchers and developers. He continued to operate heavy equipment until his retirement at the age of 85. He loved farming and growing peaches. A. K. "Arvis" Strickland, 78, who was a retired construction contractor died Monday, July 5, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jewel Daughtry Strickland. Until a second retirement in 2000, he owned Strickland Golf Carts in Tallahassee. He was a World War II veteran and a lifelong member of Climax Advent Christian Church. (Powell) Strickland, at Ben Haden in Wakulla County. During the Depression, he was a member of President Roosevelt's Civilian Conservation Corps. He managed several dairies in Manatee County and helped his son, Richard, who owned dairies in Georgia. Upon retiring, he returned to Crawfordville. He was ordained a deacon at Samoset Baptist Church in Manatee Company and served as a deacon at Riversink Baptist Church. He is survived by three sons, Tony Strickland (and wife Jane Ellen), Richard Strickland (and wife Nancy) and Bill Strickland (and wife Susan); 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a devoted caregiver and friend, Betty Morris. Matthew Ryan Strubble, 22, a singer and guitarist, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003. He is survived by his parents, Butch and Kathy Strubble. Joan Shepherd Styles, 79, died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at Margaret Dozier Hospice House, succumbing to injuries suffered in a fall earlier this month. She is survived by her husband, James R. Joan was born in Tampa on February 5, 1928, to James Revels and Betty Brandon. The sixth generation Floridian was proud of her service as Tallahassee's first female police officer. She relocated with her children to Tallahassee in 1966 where she was first employed by the State Public Safety Department. From there she moved on to manage the animal control facility before going into training to become a police officer. She was medically retired from the department in 1982 when a car accident disabled her. She was able to fight her way back from the traumatic head injury and was enjoying her years surrounded by family and a host of four legged friends. She is also survived by her five children, James D. Kitchens of Tallahassee, Mary Louise Goodie of Atlanta, Joseph F. Goodie (and wife Ann) of Fairhope, Ala., Joanie Sharman (and husband Bobby) of Crawfordville and Jill Bell (and husband Seward) of Eufaula, Ala.; six grandchildren, Juliette "Bambi" McDaniel (and husband Todd) of Athens, Ga., Heidi Harris (and husband Stan) of Powder Springs, Ga., April Steingrebe (and husband Scott) of San Diego, Calif., Adrian Steve Hall of Crawfordville, and Joseph "ET" Goodie and Taylor Goodie of Fairhope, Ala.; a brother, Jack Hayward of Westwood, Mass.; a sister, Janet Revels of Tallahassee; and five great-grandchildren. PANACEA - James C. Swentzel, 86, an engineer, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, in Tallahassee. The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. EDT Friday at Ebenezer Cemetery in Madison County. Born in Portsmouth, Ohio, he had lived in Washington, D.C., Homestead and Merritt Island before moving to Wakulla County in 1971. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War and retired from active duty in 1955. He served with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during his time of service. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a Methodist. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Mabel Martin Schulz of Madison, and a nephew, Robert L. Schulz of Madison.
